Tin Can Wi-Fi & Connectivity

  • My Tin Can won’t connect to my Wi-Fi, what should I do?

    I don’t see any Wi-Fi networks

    • Make sure you have the latest version of the Tin Can app installed and confirm that your Wi-Fi network is up and running with your router powered on and broadcasting. Then fully close the Tin Can app, reopen it, and resume setup. If it still doesn’t work, try setting up the device from a different smartphone.

I see Wi-Fi networks, but not mine

    • If other networks appear but yours doesn’t, start the Wi-Fi setup again from the beginning and scroll through the full list of available networks. Make sure your router is turned on and that other devices can connect, then move your Tin Can closer to the router and try again.

It says Wi-Fi is connected, but it’s not working

    • This usually means the app just needs a quick reset, fully close the Tin Can app, then reopen it and resume setup.

It says my Wi-Fi password is incorrect

    • We recommend copying and pasting your Wi-Fi password directly to avoid typos.
    • Hot tip: if your Wi-Fi password is longer than 65 characters (impressive!), the app won’t register any characters beyond that limit. Shortening your password should do the trick.

  • I want to connect my Tin Can to a different Wi-Fi network.

Totally cool! You can easily change the Wi-Fi network your Tin Can is connected to in the app. Just tap the settings (cog) next to your Tin Can number, select the pencil icon under Devices, and update the Wi-Fi settings.

  • Does Tin Can work with mesh routers?

Yes! Tin Can can work with mesh Wi-Fi systems, though setup may take an extra step. For the smoothest connection, we recommend temporarily turning off any extra mesh nodes during setup.

Move your Tin Can closer to the main node you want it to connect to, complete the Wi-Fi connection and any updates, then turn your other mesh nodes back on. Once set up, you can move Tin Can back to its usual spot and use your full mesh network as normal.

  • My Wi-Fi uses 5 GHz

Tin Can doesn’t support 5 GHz Wi-Fi. Like many small single-purpose devices (such as Roombas), it connects only to 2.4 GHz networks. You’ll need to adjust your router settings to enable 2.4 GHz. • I have EMF exposure concerns about the Wi-Fi enabled Tin Can.

The Wi-Fi antenna in Tin Can is housed in the handset and uses a standard FCC-certified module for processing Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. It’s classified as a low-power transmitter, and full RF exposure details are available in the FCC filing under “RF Exposure.”
